Do you need to get it off your “desk”? Enter: Per My Last Email, an anonymous series where we’re getting the real deal on how women feel about their careers—the frustrating struggles, the joyful moments, and everything in-between. Whether you’re looking for real advice or just validation that we’re possibly all going through it right now, find their responses below.
How old are you?
34
What is your job?
Design & Production Manager
What is your yearly income?
75,000
What is your relationship status?
Single
Do you have any children?
No
Did you attend college?
Some college. I went to school for 4 years but didn’t graduate with anything.
If yes, are you currently using the degree you went to school for?
Somewhat. I loved the arts and studied it, but this career somewhat fell into my lap after Covid.
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
A singer
What do you think your younger self would think of you today?
Proud of my accomplishments. Being a girl who grew up in the Midwest with people who didn’t push themselves to do anything out of the norm (marry young and have kids). I stayed true to my younger self who had big dreams and wanted more.
Do you love your work?
I do love it but also hate that I struggle with work/life balance. My work tends to overpower time with friends or family more often than not.
Do you think you should love your work?
Yes, we’re here for such a short time, why not love what you do.
What is your work-life balance like?
The worst, but I’m really focused on making changes this coming year. It’s hard to work a full day then sit in an hour of traffic. Since I live in LA, most of my friends live across town and have different schedules so it’s hard to meet or make time. I often go home eat dinner, hit the gym, and go to bed. Repeat. On weekends, I’m playing catchup with sleep and weekly errands.
What is one thing you had to learn the hard way?
Understanding when it’s time to let a friend go.
What is something you wish you'd known early in your career?
How to manage stress and pressure.
What is one piece of advice every woman needs to hear?
Eat the dessert. No man is going to love you less.
What's one thing you're struggling with? (at work or otherwise)
I’ve just been promoted to a management role and I’m struggling with self-doubt and imposter syndrome.
What's one thing bringing you joy? (at work or otherwise)
Dog videos and listening to a good book on audible.
Is there anything else you want to get off your chest/desk?
I secretly want my sister to break up with her significant other.
